Visiontek (Xtacy) or Leadtek...GeForce 3's
I'm in the market for a Geforce 3 Ti200 card and I have narrowed it down to two companies that I like. VisionTek and Leadtek (any other recommendations welcome)
Which do you prefer? I think the Leadtek has much better cooling with all of those heatsinks. And also for the Leadteks, they have 2 different models: VGA LEADTEK Geforce3 TI200 64MB TV Retail Box and VGA LEADTEK|GF3 TI200 64MB TV/DVI(TDH) The second one costs 189.99 while the first only 169.99. Whats the difference? Any opinions on the VisionTek? |

I would say neither. The Geforce 2 actually has better scores and is a
faster card. The only difference is the Geforce 3's programmable shading, which has yet to rear its head in any game thus far. I just ordered the Leadtek Geforce 2 ti 64mb w/tvout. $130 w/shipping, works for me. In my opinion the 3 is yet another sucker job. Kind of like the overpriced glorious Pc-800 RDRAM which Ill admit I fell for. |

Rogue,
I agree with freptide. Go with the GeForce 2. Best Buy has the VisionTek GeForce 2MX 400 Agp for $99.99. There really isn't anything out there right now that utilizes the full potential of the G3. Plus the G2 in my opinion is a better card at a better price. |

With all the problems cropping up with the Nvidia Drivers and G-Force cards in trying to run Return to Castle Wolfenstein, I think I would look at ATI.

What problems are cropping up with nVidia drivers? I must have missed that post.
I was also unaware of any problems with nVidia cards and Castle Wolfenstein. I played the demo on my GeForce 2 GTS equipped machine and it was beautiful. No problems whatsoever. Rogue, I'd suggest you go with a GeForce 2 GTS, not an MX. The MX version is scaled down and performs more on par with a GeForce 256 than a true GeForce 2 GTS. One can be had online almost anywhere for around $130-$160.

Also, Red Faction, RTCW, and Max Payne take advantage of DX 8 capabilities when run on a Geforce 3, but not on a Geforce 2. RTCW runs and looks great on my Geforce 3 TI 200. But to address the thread's question: Which one is the Visiontek? You have both cards listed as Leadtek's ![]() The price difference between the two cards is due to one of the cards having a DVI connector and onboard support for DVI (Digital Visual Interface-- I think this is for high resolution digital flat panel monitors)-- this seems to be a $20 option. |

Thanks Prew. They don't seem to understand how important framrates are in online gaming. Belive me, a Geforce 3 will smoke a Geforce 2 in framrates. And its not just that. The quality of a Geforce 3 vs. A Geforce 2 was much better on my friends computer also. It's proven, and I've seen it before on my friends computer.
And Prew I know they are both Leadtek, I just listed them to know what the differences were. So which would you prefer, the VisionTek or the Leadtek? |

![]() Don't have an opinion as I have never used either brand (I have an MSI Geforce3 TI 200 and a Hercules 3D Prophet DDR). Reviews show that the Geforce3 cards are the same speed, but I have never seen any objective information on reliability. Given this, I would buy the one that I could get the best deal on (that's why I bought the MSI). |

Don't know what's better for you. You'll have to decide for yourself based on your personal preference. Do you plan to overclock it? Do you think you'll eventually need the support for the DX8, and is that really important to you? Or, do you like the pretty colors that some of the vid boards come in. Maybe this artical at Toms Hardware can help you decide what'll work best for you.

Hey guys I picked up a Visiontek card yesterday, installed it with no problems. The thing FLIES, especially when overclocked.
One question though, when I was removing my old video card I noticed that it had a ribbon cable attatched to it. There was no port on the new card for this to go into so I just removed it completely. Im not sure which other card it was coming from, but it might have been the sound card. Even with it out it works perfectly. What is this cable for? The one MAJOR difference I noticed is the quality of the DVD's that I play. They are 100x better than with my old 32mb card. |

I agree with Tiretool, (hi Tiretool!), I have a GeForce II 2 GTS and a GeForce III, and Wolfenstein, and they work just fine!
The GeForce III is faster too and there is no doubt that I would buy one. Er, In fact, I did. |
