whats wrong

When im playing some games the screen turns black and you hear the cdrom reve up then die, it will keepp doing it but wont go. I had to turn off wonder movies in civilization CTP to stop this but in other games it just turns black.
The disk are clean and not scratched, is my cdrom dieing?

Have you tested the games with another CD-ROM drive?

Most likely a dieing CDROM drive try testing the game on a friends CDROM and see what happens.

Where exactly does the screen go black in these games?
When the game is starting up or when the game is running for a while?

I gather from what you've said, that civilization CTP starts up and plays well, but just goes black at the movie sections?
