ok, a long time ago I installed an ATI 7500. It was alot faster than my older card. And to tell you the truth, it doesnt look that much better. I was confused when I was trying to install the drivers. Is there any thing I could have missed that would make the picture on games rough??

Hi whr2206,
What do you mean by "rough"? |

The edges of things in the game are rough(edges), and not smooth. They just dont look good. I thought the card would be alot faster (which it is) but the graphics havent really changed. My last card was a voodoo 3 16mb agp.

Hello, I have the 7500 too. You could try to change some values in the >display properties>setting>advanced, and in the OpenGL tab you can choose either "quality" or "performance" buttons. I always keep mine on performance, but maybe the quality button is what you are looking for?

When you installed the drivers, did you get a window stating that the files you were replacing were newer>do you want to keep exisiting file?. I found out a while back, that with ATI cards it's a good idea to use their files even if they are older as performance will suffer. Just remove the display adapter from the device manage and reinstall, except this time when you get the message, overwrite the newer file with the one on the cd by selecting NO.

alright, I'll re-install it, and put it on performance. Like when I first got it, I was really impressed, but then I found out, ghost recon ran on a new engine. Then I played a game I had on my downstairs computer which has the voodoo3 in it now, and it looked the same. Ghost recon is the only game I see a difference in, but it might just be, because it has a newer grpahics engine, than like old school tom clancy, and ra etc.

You could also try experimenting with the card's Anti-Aliasing control to see if that smoothes the edges. That's what Anti-Aliasing is for.
Increasing AA may decrease game performance but try it and see if you can get a trade-off. Alternatively, as you said, it may just a failing in this game particular game. |
