video card

Gidday all,

I was wondering if anyone out there could be of assistance. I have just recently upgraded my computer to a duron 900, a gigabyte GA-7IXEH mobo, with via KT133E+686B AGPset, socket A FSB200 cpu, ata100 (I copied from the box), i have a maxtor 20gb hdd (which i think is 5400rpm, but it could be 7200, i keep forgetting to look), LG 52X cdrom, 128mb ram. My problem is my video card. A while ago I bought an AGP card (8mb graphics card-2d/3d- expert play 2000 is it's name, and the sticker on the box says Global Business Technology, which I am assuming is the company that makes the card) which i was planning on using in this computer. However, i have encountered a problem, when I load up the computer (ie, turn it on) I get a screen full of vertical lines that change colour with the boot up screens (the various windows screens).

This is annoying, as I have to fall back on the old 1mb trident card, that allthough it is reliable is just plain. The screens I encounter are just purple and white lines across the page. It doesn't occur with the 1mb pci card. I'm not sure of the quality of the AGP card, so it could be that, but I would appreciate any ideas, wild rants or stabs in the dark.

Anyway, thanks for your time,
I hope everyone had a happy christmas and new year.

Tim

I've experienced that problem before and it turned out that my monitor was too old to use with my video card. Try a new monitor and see if that works.

Thanks mate, I was thinking that perhaps the monitor may be a little bit too long in the tooth. It's a reconditioned monitor I bought for 80 bucks down the road from my house at a second hand computer shop last year (or even the year before that). Thanks, I'll give that a try.

It's an old Compaq monitor, model escapes me at the moment (I'm using another computer). Anyway, thanks heaps for that.

I had a similar problem because I am currently using an old monitor. However, for me I changed my screen res and that cleared up a lot of my issues.
