Talking Video Card ECS SIS315

I've almost bought everything for my new computer and I am now taking on the task of finding a good video-card (in the $50 to $100 price range). Anybody know anything about the ECS sis315 64sdram 256bit AGP 4x vga. I've got the Soyo Dragon+ motherboard with the via chipset. My teacher advised me to stay away from Raedon due to incompatibility issues with the VIA chipset. Anybody ever encounter good or bad reviews regarding the SIS315. Or just let me know what your favorite video card is and why. Any feedback would be great...thanks.

I am running two systems with the ATI Radeon VE. One with the Soyo Dragon MB and one with an Iwill MB. Both have VIA chipsets and I have not had any compatibility problems whatsoever.

Thanks for the feedback...I just recently took a "Build yr own PC" class and the teacher said there was some compatibility issues with the via...I guess it all boils down to personal preference, and he must have gotten a bad card maybe.

Hi dw_pedunculo,

The incompatibilities you might have heard about were between the first generation GeForce and Radeon video cards and the early VIA chipsets that supported the AMD Athlon. These have long been "fixed" with better drivers from the video card makers and VIA. From what I can remember, that was more than a year ago. VIA is constantly "improving" their chipsets and drivers.

All the AMD Athlon/VIA computers I put together recently have all worked fine with the Radeon series video cards. I haven't had a chance to experience the GeForce cards with Athlon/VIA combination yet, but most others here have said it works great.

If you keep your video card and chipset drivers (if necessary) up to date, along with DirectX, you shouldn't have any problems.

I have yet to see a decent video chip from SiS. If you don't want to go with ATI, go with Nvidia.
