Is anyone playing Motor City Online?
I bought this game about a month ago and haven't been able to put it down yet! The graphics engine is based on the Need For Speed: Porsche Unlimited series, but it is multi-player only ($10 month suscription required). In a nutshell, you buy and sell cars, fix them up, and race them for money and points to advance to the next level. You can either race other players online, (of which there is never a shortage of, even at off-peak hours there are several hundred players on a shard), or race time trials to win some money. The cars range from a 1932 Ford Coupe, all the way up to a 1973 Firebird, with a plethora of other cars to choose from. There is a huge catalog of parts that you can buy stuff from to fix up your car. In my "garage" right now, I currently have a blown 1967 Chevy Chevelle, and a 1971 Plymouth Duster. Each one is pretty respectable performance wise, they are both running low 12's in the 1/4 mile. The best part of the game is finding a race with another player, you can wager any amount of money, or you can get daring and race for pink slips!
The way you communicate with other players is via a central "diner" which appears to be modeled loosely after American Graffiti (actually, the whole game is), this is pretty much a chatroom, you can arrange races, ask for help on setting up your car, shoot the breeze with other players, etc in here. The only downside to the game is lag/latency issues. Even people on broadband such as myself experience some lag occasionally which can screw up your race. It may look like you just smoked your opponent when in reality he left you in his dust! This can cause problems in the street races, which can turn into a wild smash-em-up because your opponent isn't where it looks like he is. There are many more features of this game that I don't have time to get into right now, such as the auction feature, which is similar to Ebay where you can auction off your car or spare parts etc. (watch out though, there are scammers in here just like in the real Ebay. In conclusion, I'd just like to say that this game is definitely worth a look, and there isn't anything else like it out there right now. |

It really is addictive isn't it?
I've had a nasty case of the flu over the past week, so I've been playing for hours everyday. Currently I'm at level 12 and just got my hands on a 70 Ford Mach 1 and I'm in the middle of building it to my specifications. I'm TheFonz on the Uptown server if you want to look me up.
