HELP video card upgrade
Hello everyone, I tried to install my ATI radeon 8500 this evening and had no luck, removed the old card a gainward TNT M64 I put the 8500 in and got no post or beep and the monitor reported that the cable was not attached however it was. Put the old card back in and it would boot right up with no problems. I think I need to remove the nvidia bios, but I don’t have a clue to how. Anyone have a suggestion?

Well now that you have the TNT2 working again, go into the device manage , in the control panel under system. Expand the display adapter section and hi-light the TNT2 entry, then click remove. When it tell you to reboot, click cancel and then shutdown the computer. Remove the TNT2, than install the ATI, making sure that you seat the card all the way into the slot. (A new card will require a little bit more force than one that was already installed. When you finish you should not be able to see any of the card's contacts above the AGP slot.
Restart your computer and it should find the card. If it doesn't work now recheck the installation and if correct you gat a bad card. |

Thanks Morris but I have been there and done that with no sucsess, with the new card the pc doesn't even get to the BIOS and I think that the nivida BIOS is the problem.

Unless you have an onboard video, once the tnt card was removed there no longer is an Nvidia BIOS or chipset on the computer. As far as the Drivers in the operating system for the card there is no reason to remove them if the card is physically not there.
You are not getting a post, which has nothing to do with the operating system or anything on the hard disk because at this point the computer doesn't care what type of card you have, it is just looking for something to run a video signal through. If you have onboard video then disable it. But more than likely the Radeon card is bad, if you cannot get a post. |
