Unhappy Video Card Price......

I was looking at video cards on Newegg and found a card from ECS that was only $37, 50w/ship. This is the link to the card on Ecs's website: http://www.ecsusa.com/ECSUSA/WWW.ECS.../AG315T-64.HTM . I was thrilled that it had such an incredible price but since other 64meg cards are hundreds of dollars I was worried. I dont know much about video cards so I figured I'd ask people who do. Thanks in advance!

They're SIS cards, that's why they are so cheap. Sure, they have a lot of RAM, but put it up against a Radeon or GF and see the difference.

What will you be using this card for? for the extra $10 i would go with a GF2 MX400, If you are on a $ crunch. Where in Ohio are you? nice to have another buckeye on here.

I would be using it for some gaming, Im not a hardcore gamer. Just the occasional HL game. I am running on an HP with 11megs of intergrated video right now,(no wonder im building a new pc), so anything is an improvement.

Southrk - What card are you referring to specifically? All the MX 400s Ive seen are around 70+. Im down by Dayton, you?

HAL9000 - What exactly is the difference between a SIS card and a Radeon? I dont need any extreme preformance, but should I still look elsewhere?. Im just trying to budget concious.

Alaron56, if you want a budget gaming card definately go with the ATI Radeon or GeForce 2 cards. Heck NewEgg has a a Visiontek GeForce2 GTS-V card for only $49, that's a great deal.

Consider a SIS based card as just an everyday generic graphics card. When you look at ATI Radeon's and the NVidia GeForce series, you're getting a higher end very capable gaming card. You can get a bottom end 32Mb Radeon or GF for not that much more than the SIS card in question, but they will both blow it away.

The MX400 card i was refering to is made by evga, 64m 4x agp $58 on newegg, didnt see the gts-v, for the price i would say go for the gts-v. Im up in the cleveland area, I go to Mount Union College if youve ever heard of it. My sister lives in dayton, in little york, used to live in huber heights.

Exclamation What about ATI Radeon chipset

Hi all, I am also from the Cleveland area and also in the same boat. I just got an email from newegg today and all my stuff FINALLY is being shipped. I don't have the money for even a cheap card right now. I am going to use(hopefully if it works) this stealth se card I have laying around just so I can get my puter working. In a few weeks, I will buy a card in the $40-60 range. I came across a few with the GeForce2, but this ATI from newegg here for $48, caught my attention. It has tv and 64mb ram. Is this a good card?
My new system is going to be as follows:
  • MSI K7T266 PRO2 (MS-6380 6380-060) VIA KT266A
  • AMD Duron 950mhz processor
  • 256 Crucial DDR ram

Yea, that is a good price for the radeon. I am more of a nvidia guy. I think you will get about the same performance from each card, not much difference IMHO i would still go with the gts.

I would actually take a look at the card above it. The 64Mb card that you are looking at uses single data rate RAM, while the card above it is only 32Mb, it uses DDR RAM which will perform just as good, and in some situations, probably better than the 64Mb card.... Three bucks cheaper too.

I understand about the RAM on the card increasing preformance but people keep mentioning Gts-v. What is that exactly? Is it just a good model of card or what? From what youve all said it is better to have this but I was curious why.

I believe that the GTS-v is just a stripped down version of the GTS.

Also check out ubid.com. They have a visiontek geforce 2 gts 32mb ddr that goes for about 45 + shipping. That's what i got and it's a nice card for the money. Just a suggestion though.
