WHICH Firewall did they install?? Are you able to adjust any of the settings for the Firewall or can this only be done by the college?

If you are able to access the firewall program you can configure it to allow whatever you need to be accessed.

A Firewall is generally considered to be a good thing and should be in place to protect the students. The college should be able to configure the Firewall to allow activities and still keep the server on stealth mode to protect it.

If this is a server arrangement and if it is attacked sucessfully then the students will lose access anyway.

If it is not a server arrangement, then the students should all have ZoneAlarm on their PCs.

In any event, the college should get better advice on how to set up good Firewall from the consultants whom they are paying.

The schools internet is all screwed up, My freshman year it was great, the over the last 3 years it has progressivelly gotten worse. About twice a day it goes down for probably 30-60 mins. Constantly slow, the only way to play games now is at like 3 am, then the pings still arent that great... They claim to be on a T3, and claim to pay $4 million a year for their internet connection. Im just fed up with everying, you know it costs $24,500 a year to go here and it takes 2-3 minutes to load a webpage. check out what they have to say about the internet connection. http://www.muc.edu/CIS/CampusInternetConnection.htm
