nVidia Detonator XP 23.11 prob
Hello,
I have a GeForce 2 GTS card and after I installed the newest drivers (23.11) the 1024x768 mode does not work with Direct3D. When a Direct 3D based game chooses 1024x768 my monitor gets black and reports a "non supported video mode. Change back to 1024x768 @ 60 Hz". This error message occurs when a higher resolution is chosen (because max. res. is 1024x768). 640x480 and 800x600 are handled correctly. Games that use OpenGL (i.e. Counter-Strike) don't have that problem, 1024x768 works normal. Is this a bug in the 23.11 driver ? I've never had problems with 1024x768 with Direct3D (had to lower the res. to 800x600 in nearly all games ), only now with the 23.11.If it's a bug, does anyone know what resolution this driver tries to set when 1024x768 is chosen ? And the previous driver, was it the 21.83 ? (maybe I have to install the older driver for now. . but I hope nvidia fixes that problem). RJ

Sorry, I didn't notice the "higher than 1024x768" part, I'll test and repost.

The thing is that when I set a Direct3D game to 1024x768 the driver seems to set a higher resolution, and because my monitor can't display more than 1024x768 it gives the error message, because this is the error message to inform that a too high resolution was selected.
So there seems to be a bug with 1024x768. Maybe it wants to set 1024x786 or something like that. When you play a Direct 3D game with 1024x768, do you get the same picture as with older drivers, or does the resolution seem a bit higher ? RJ |

Now I got it, my games are working fine in 1024x768 direct3d mode.
My monitor can show the res and the color depth, it's still 1024x768. Are all your games having the same prob? Last edited by aym; 02-17-2002 at 08:54 AM. |

Yes. . all games that are configured to use Direct 3D. That are for example Total Annihilation, Red Alert II, Flight Simulator 98, Aliens versus Predator etc. etc.
Two of my games, Counter-Strike and Serious Sam The First Encounter, use OpenGL and have no problems with 1024x768. Maybe it's the refresh rate ? Windows runs fine with 60Hz. In games (640x480 and 800x600) 75Hz are used. Possibly the driver sets the refresh rate too high in 1024x768. I've heard of a refresh rate issue with nvidia drivers (stuck at 60Hz), but never heard of the opposite (too high.. means >75 Hz). Is your refresh rate automatically changed in games ? What does your monitor show ? RJ |

Nevermind. . I fixed it.
In device manager there was "Plug & Play monitor" instead of "Philips Brilliance 150P". . it must have been changed when I updated the driver (it was the first time that I ran the exe file. . the previous drivers I extracted and then changed through device manager. . .)Now all is working well again. Thanks again for your help. RJ |
