I have an HP pavilion 8280 with win 98, 320 megs ram, PII 333mhz,ATI 3D
rage pro agp graphics with 4mb 100mhz sgram, intel 440LX AGPSET. My motherboard is an ASUS P2L97A. I have tried to install a mx400 geforce2 64mb pci card in my system. I removed the old ati graphics in device manager and disabled the agp controller in device manager. There is no way to disable it in the bios, I tried to move the jumpers in different spots.I have the manual, but it does not show you how to do it. When I installed my new card and turned my computer back on, it sounded like it was booting up but got one beep then 2more beeps then my monitor stayed black and the green light on it turned orange.I tried to put the card in all the different pci slots but still no luck. Im running out of patience does anybody out there got this HP pavilion 8280 and would know how to do this, or is it not POSSIBLE. |

Check your BIOS for the amount of memory that your onboard AGP is using. I've seen one that you disabled by setting it's usable memory to 0. Other than that, check for a jumper to disable it. Or contact HP and see if it is even possible.

I see, well I followed HP's site using that number and that's where they led me. I did go to the Asus site and downloaded the manual for that board, it does not seem that they made any provision for disabling the onboard graphics. So you may be stuck with what you have or end up buying a new motherboard.

I had a 7850 a while back and it had onboard graphics as well. I tried to get into bios to change that to improve the performance of a pci vid card I had. I think I went into device manager and disabled it there.
