Total Adobe Photoshop newbie
Hey guys whats going on. I recently just picked up adobe photshop 6 at my college just to toy around with some(at $10 why wouldnt you). What im wondering is how in the world do you make a photo bigger? I want to adjust the size of a picture so that it can fit it in a designated spot on a template that needs it to be bigger. I have been toying around with it and i cant seem to figure it out. I thought it would be a simple tool that i would choose and drag it to a certain size but either i havent found it or there isnt a tool. Also when i make a photo transparent, in the template im usuing it has a checkered background, so when i make it transparent the checkered backround stays. Will this checkered backround print out or is it just a layer that will print out white but appears checkered. Any info would be appreciated, as you can tell, im a photoshop newbie.

The checkered backround will NOT stay when you print, or open in a different program (Internet Explorer for example.)
To adjust size just go to: Image>Image Size.

if you are working in Photoshop for items to print to a printer, make sure you are working in CMYK mode. for web based/electronic based work use RGB. goto image / mode

Resize that puppy!
I don't have my laptop open at the moment, so this advice will be general. In Photoshop, go to where you can resize your photo. Usually this is under a heading called "Image" or "View". If you have a general idea of how big you want it (inches, pixels, whatever) plug it in here. Just be aware of the consequences of file size. Another method is to import it into Pagemaker, Freehand (even MS Word) and stretch it to the size you need. Hope it helps.
