All In Wonder VE- Video card compatibility?
Hi,
I want to upgrage my video card. Problem is I'm feeling kind of limited since I want to keep my ATI All In Wonder VE card in my system. I know there are some compatibility issues here. In the past I tried an S3 32mg but the All In wonder would not work with this card installed. So I reverted back to an ATI Rage II an this solved my problem. This was satisfactory for a while, but I have a new 3D game that I want to play (Sub Command), but can't get the proper video. Since the computer show is coming up next week I want to get a good video solution for my system. I know I can go with a Radeon 64 mb ddr but I was interested if anyone is running another type of video card with the All In wonder VE. |

Hi highrise,
Can't answer your question about compatiblity with AIW, but are you sure there isn't a patch for Sub Command that fixes this issue? Mike |

Ever consider of ditching the All-in-Wonder VE and your current video card for either an AIW Radeon 32Mb, AIW Radeon 7500 64Mb (Very little difference in price between the two), or the AIW Radeon 8500DV (hope you have deep pockets).

Thanks Mike but I really think i need to go with a better video card.
Hal I really did not want to spend a lot of money, hence this thread. I looked at the ATI web site. The All In Wonder VE is supposedly compatible with Nvidia video cards so I'm kind of leaning in that direction. I'm wondering if anyone out there has been there and done that...... |

Not a prob... I was just curious since you were looking to purchase a vid card anyway, I thought you might be able to offset some of the cost by selling the VE.

I may consider it. I'm going to see what is available at the computer show next weekend.

Update:
Actually there was a compatibility problem with the Nvidia. I bought and installed the 32 MB TNT2. Well after installation all I would get from the TV card were still frames. I thought wow this isn't right. So I went to the ATI web site and was lucky enough to find a little tid bit. Apparently the Nvidia will work with the All In Wonder if you use the Nvidia reference driver 2.08 or prior. So it was off to the Nvidia website to get my driver. Problem was, I couldn't find it. At that point I did a search at www.driverguide.com I found the driver there. I can now say everything is working great. My game (Sub Command) is now working great as well. Now if I can only learn how to play it. |
