Question about 4.1 speakers and how to hook them up.

Alright, I don't know a whole lot about sound but the soyo motherboard I ordered comes with a 5.1 DD sound card built in, I want to get these nice Creative labs speakers but I was thinking that the 5.1 sound might not be copatiable with the speakers, Am I right, or is the 5.1 sound card backwards compatiable with 4.1 speakers?

Most likely it will work fine. Provide us with the model number of the motherboard you've selected and let's take a closer look.

I have the Soyo K7V+ model. It comes with this little thing that plugs into the on-board sound that has what I think is optical in and regular sound input/output ports. I was wondering if you hook up the 4.1 in the regular sound out or do you plug it into the 5.1 receiver thing.

well i have the soyo dragon+ and that has the 5.1 sound i think you're talking about. yes, it is compatible with 4.1 sound systems. just plug your sub woofer into the black output and you speakers into the green output. then go into the software provide ("mixer" is it?) and just set it to 5.1 anyway. it'll still work. they don't have a setting for 4.1, just 4. so i put mine on 5.1 b/c i have the subwoofer. we just don't have a center channel. but the other four speakers work just fine. i like the c-media 5.1, works well for me. i don't really need much more.
