Hey everyone,
Could you please recommend some of the better brands for a GeForce 3 or a GeForce 3 Ti200 video card. I've heard people say that Gainward and Asus make good cards, but I'd like some kind of consensus for my new build Also, how much of a difference is there between the normal Geforce 3 and the Ti200. I can't afford the Ti500. Thanks ! Soundwave |

Asus and Leadtek make good cards, and Leadtek makes a 128MB version. The Geforce 3 is a bit faster than the Ti200, but probably a negligible amount of speed. Asus "Deluxe" versions come with lotsa addons, like software packages and 3D glasses. Check both out... hope it helps. I'd post more, but short on time.

I have the leadtek gf3 ti200 128ddr, and I am extremely happy with this card. Nice software bundle for overclocking and hardware monitoring. Comes with win dvd, 2 full games, has svideo out and an svideo to rca adapter for tv's without svideo, DVI. It OC's to ti500 specs well, but i run it at default, and the card still rocks. Also you can tell thay take pride in there work just by the way the card is packaged. I f I ever need another video card I will go leadtek. DB

yeah ... a friend is trying to convince me that I should spend more $$$ and get the Geforce 3, but so far I'm leaning towards the Ti200. So how hard is it to overclock a video card, and what drawbacks are there for doing this?
Thanks Soundwave |

I tend to stick to Creative, Hercules, and Elsa. I have found the build quality from these manufacturers to be consistently good.
However, I would think very carefully about shelling out mega bucks at the moment for a Ti200 which is slower than the original Geoforce3. Word on the street is NVidia is gearing up for the launch of the Geoforce4 (NV25). If history repeats itself, we can expect to see a healthy dive in price for Geoforce3 and Ti cards. I expect to be picking up a nice little Geoforce3 from a bargain bin in the near future. |

Actually my gf3 ti200 comes with software to overclock, making it very easy. As far as price I bought my Leadtek Gf3 ti200 128 ddr for 190.00 US last week. The same card with 64ddr was 160.00 US. I thought this was pretty reasonable. This card also overclocks to the original gf3 specs with no problems (in my machine anyway). Considering the GF3 Ti500 is still around 350.00 US in my area, I think it's a sweet deal. DB
P.S. with my system as shown below I scored 6,604 on 3dmark 2001 SE |

Point taken. I forgot the time lag between products filling the shelves in the US and here in the UK.
So far I have seen no G4 on the shelves in my area - it's all G3, Ti200, and Ti500. I haven't even seen one reviewed in the UK PC press. However, I did check some of the online shops in the UK and a trickle of G4MXs have appeared. If the G4s are begining to fill the shelves in the US already, then you will obviously be getting a price drop in the G3s before us. |

And about the Geforce 4 MX cards... dont get them. They aren't much of an improvement of the Geforce 2 MX400 line, and cost twice as much. Stick with the G3s as they aren't TOO expensive and they are good cards. But you are right about the price. It will drop when the Geforce 4 Ti cards are released, and in a short time frame the inventory of G3 Ti 200 cards will run out. So that's the best time to buy one. As I said, they are discontinuing, I think, the G3 Ti 200 line.

Yeah, you could wait for the GeForce4 cards to enter the market. And that might be a prudent choice in the long run. However, waiting usually results in a significant price drop in ANY respect. And, what matters is "right now" in the computer industry and what kind of performance you need/would like now. I would guess, to sum it up, what do ya wanna pay? I ,like, DragonBreath have the exact same card. I am not only pleased with the performance of the card, but, I really appreciate the attention to detail Leadtek puts in the vid card. I am impressed. The thing also comes witha decent gaming bundle that many other manufactures choose to ignore completely! What's up with that? Buy a new vid card and show it off to the end user... that very end user will be the best salesman you can ever find! I love this Leadtek G3 T200! I upgraded from a Abit G200mx, Which at the time I liked 'cause I knew it was quality, but the retail package was the card and that's it, other than the driver CD. Check this link out before you drop the green in anybody's direction. Tom and his crew know what's important.

Well having read the review, I couldn't raise any enthusiasm for any of them. I think I'll just keep to my battle plan of bargain-hunting for an original G3.
Shame about Elsa. It's sad to see a really good quality manufacturer hit the dust. |
