Does anyone know the best route at looking into becoming a game tester? is it just a pipe dream?

I'm not sure about for a CAREER as a game tester, but it's not extremely difficult to become a beta tester for indvidual games. Usually the developer's site will have application details. I think what your talking about is actually working for a company, which I don't know much about. BTW- I'm currently beta testing new versions of half-life, counter-strike, day of deafeat, team fortress, and all those mods. I just emailed Valve when it was up on their site, and the picked me.

Yeah, I second that. Valve got a hold of me also, and I've been beta testing all of those mods for about 2 months now. I also signed up for Beta testing on V-com's site. If I get picked for that, I get a free copy of the software that I test when it is released to the public. No money, but at least I get free software.
