I am currently looking into buying a new 3D card, but not sure whether I'm able to go with an AGP card. I have a p2 450 MHz, 256 mb RAM, compaq o4E8h motherboard, windows 98...
I can see 3 PCI slots, and one AGP (in which my current card, a RAGE LT PRO AGP, runs). I have read in manuals that you're supposed to take out the current card, and then install the new card into a different slot, can i instead install the new card into the AGP slot? And how do i find out whether my slots are 1.0 or 2.0 compliant? hope I'm making sense Thank you D |

Hi Dswissmiss, welcome to the PC Mech forums!
You can go ahead and install the new card in the same AGP slot, there won't be any problems. As for the AGP 1.0/2.0 support, check the manual or the Compaq support page for that motherboard, it should have more info.

Also check the BIOS setup, you should have an entry to select the AGP setting. Just look and see what the Maximum setting is.

According to ATI, the Radeon series is AGP 1.0 and AGP 2.0 compliant. They have Universal connectors that will fit either slot.
