BUy and ATI by ATI and forget the confusion. NVIDIA sells chips to anybody so you never know the quality of the rest of the card, except for a few of the higher end names.

Hi sUsHIboI,
Yes, it sure is confusing. Basically, NVidia couldn't have made it more confusing if they tried. Each variation of the chip comes in a variety of flavours Basically, NVidia couldn't have made it more confusing if they tried. Each variation of the chip comes in a variety of flavours, but in general the more you pay the better it is. That’s the theory, anyway, although there is always a premium to be paid for the most recent chips, even if they aren't much better. Frankly I would stick with the GeForce 3 right now, it is a little too early to invest in a 4. I must admit that I get slightly confused by some of the names that are available in the shops. As far as I am aware, the slowest GeForce 3 is the Ti200, faster is the original GeForce 3 and the fastest is the Ti500. But I have no doubt someone will point out the error of my ways if I got that wrong! When it comes to the GeForce 4, there are no less that 5 variations, 6 if you include the portable variety. To cut a log story short, I can’t see any reason why you would want a 4 other than maybe the Ti4400 or the faster Ti4600. It has to be said that the 4600 is very fast indeed, but there are doubts as to whether it will be any good with up and coming releases of games. |
