Red Alert 2 was my favorite. I didn't play much of Tiberian Sun because I didn't like the changes (environment, weapons). I'm really looking forward to C&C: Generals though.

CRASH Best CnC Game

Best was the original Red Alert with The Aftermath expansion. Sure, now it's a horrible game, but back in '97 it rocked. Now, I'd say Red Alert 2 with the x-pac. The x-pac ain't balanced at all, has too little music, and is still too hackable, but it adds a lot of stuff to extend the game life.

CnC Tib Sun was OK, not what it was hyped for, but not a bad game either. CnC Generals better not be rushed like some other WW games have been...

Still, the best CnC has to be Tiberian Twilight. (yet to be announced by WW)

In this order (upper is best):

1. Original C&C
2. Tiberian Sun
3. Red Alert

No reason for laughing, I liked this games a lot because of the history. And the videos.

Howdy,
I have been a C&C fan since the beginning.
I used to create single play missions for the first C&C and Red-Alert.
I like the Red-alert2 but the Yuri's revenge was a waste IMHO.
The original C&C set all kinds of records and made Westwood "the" RTS game designer.
All of them are great fun, all of them are a blast on the network.
I'll keep buying them until the screw things up by going "3D".
In RA-2, a mild impalance gives the soviets an edge which is how it should be. However, when Yuris stuff is added, the advantage goes to both the allied and yuris side.
I was not pleased with the Yuri expansion.

i played the C&C demo for DOS and it kicked ass. after that i bought red alert domination pack, and tiberian sun. i still haven't gotten around to buying RA2 with Yuri's Revenge or Emperor: Battle for Dune either. being poor sucks.

hey Toaster, what didn't you like about Yuri's Revenge? The new Yuri faction makes multiplayer more fun that it was before, especially since tank rushes don't work as much as they used to.

Gotta go with the original. It almost finished my college career. I will never forget the first obelisk of light we came across. Just walking along and PFFZZZT!!! little fried GDI man. From that point on I was hooked. I fear that the same thing will happen to C&C as happened to other series' such as HOMM. That is, sequels become so complex/difficult that they just aren't fun any more. C&C provided that subdued carnage that I always wanted in a game. The original should go down as the greatest RTS in history.

Almost brings a tear to my eye thinking about the days of no sleep, overflowing ashtrays, towers of empty Copenhagen cans, crunched up big mac wrappers, and empty cases of Mountain Dew and Busch Light strewn across my room caused by the original. I wonder if my wife would let me live like that next time I was on vacation?

I suddenly remembered that wednesday when I called to the college telling them I was sick, just to remain at home playing C&C. I never imagined I could do that thing. And those long afternoons in my friend Rick's home playing matches, and those late night phone calls to pass on tips or just to say: "I finished GDI mission N at last!! Yeeeppeee!!!"...
Man! You have brought tears to the eyes of an old NOD veteran...!

There are only two games that have taken over my life like that, C&C and the original Tomb Raider. I have had my fair share of game addictions, but those two were really hard to shake. Sometimes I am amazed I graduated.

So am I. If I'd tell ya of all those exams I did not pass because of computer games...

Final exam:
Question 6: Enumerate the causes of diarrhea in dogs.

My answer: Tiberium poisoning, long exposure to tiberium crystals, etc.

Question 11: What causes Marek disease?

My answer: Chemical warriors in multiplayer games.

Question 17: What is a Drosophilla melanogaster?

My answer: Wait! That must be a GDI unit I haven't found yet!

Hello folks,
The original C&C set numerous records. A fantastic game by any standard for RTS gamers. Red Alert was also a great game. Most of the C&C games had some imbalances and suffered from a severe case of "tank rush".
I feel, in RA2 that the tank rush is almost obsolete.
The "yuri's revenge" add-on was a big mistake.
While it offered some neat items, I felt it grossly disturbed the game balance.
In ALL C&C games, I played the "non-allied" side.
I found the allied goodies to mild for my taste.
I played the RA2 and finnished both sides in one setting of about 12 hours, highly addictive.
Another RTS game I was hooked on and STILL play is M.A.X. by Interplay. An older DOS game thats great fun.
Westwood will one day do the 3D engine for their games much like Emperor of Dune which I didn't care much for.
Give me NOD or the Soviets! (the Soviet terror drone is EXTREMELY entertaining)

I do think the allied "tank" is far too mild. A single low end Soviet tank can take on 2 allied tanks and emerge victorious. If the "computer" manages the allied tanks, 4 kills isn't uncommon and Iv'e "nailed" 7 on rare occaision.

The KEY to the original C&C lies in the fact that "the most northern unit" will catch the heat when controlled by the computer or in single play.

Great games that only Westwood can do....
