Gaming addiction
This thread got me to thinking:
http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.p...threadid=29763 My worst video game addictions were to C&C and Tomb Raider. Has anyone else ever experienced what I like to call "video crack"? If so, what games in case I need to kill some time. PMich |

obviously none of you have played DAOC
Dark Age Of Camelot This game is by far the best MMORPG out.. way better than everquest the tech support is amazing, they patch almost every single day. i once sat down and played that game for 12 hours straight.. it gave me a bloody nose |

12 hours straight is nothing. My old roommate and I played Tomb Raider for 32 hours straight in shifts until we beat that fool thing. My personal best was 18+ hours of HOMMII straight by my lonesome. If I remember right that was ca. 12 pack of Dew, pack and a half of Camels, can of Copenhagen and a delivered Taco Bell breakfast at about 6:30 A.M. Life was good. What was really scary is that a buddy of mine watched me play for about half of that time.

I have noticed that no one seems to give Warcraft II any credit. It is the ultimate strategy game. My father used to have an office in the garage and my brothers and I would multiplayer for hours. Definitly my classic game!

Ok...
Well, the ONE game I really played a lot is StarCraft, including the expansion pack, Brood War (sorry eracheff, but I prefer Starcraft to Warcraft). Then there are various space sim, such as Freespace and Freespace 2. Really good games. I think I played for 12 hours straight the first time I played Freespace. And, for some reason, Lord of the Realm II... pstj |

i think my first all-nighter was castles 1. i feel either really old or really poor. something about watching those little 12 pixel guys duke it out or fall off the walls made PCs way better than my atari 400. hmmm.....

The game I've played the most BY FAR is UT. I am somewhat of a new PC gamer though. I was into consoles mostly until the Playstation 1 fizzled out over a year ago. I keep looking for another GOOD multiplayer game to catch me like UT did but have not found it yet. I don't think I want it to be a FPS, maybe a good strategy game or RPG.. I wouldn't touch MMORPG's with a ten foot broadsword.

deanboyj, what server you play on?
Since I 'retired' from UT I've been playing DAoC too. Have a 41 Ranger and a 27 Eldritch on Palomides, and a lowbie Theurgist on Pellinor. |

Basically any good game I get becomes an addictive marathon!! Duke Nukem, Command & Conquer, Quake series, TFC and CS. Even back in the old Apple ][ days I used to play a Space Invaders knock off called Falcons.

i'm surprised nobody said super mario bros for nintendo. that game was way addicting... mostly because there was no way to save your game. and then after you beat it, it got harder with those little shell-headed guys instead of mushrooms. and how you could get tons of lives on that third level. i dunno, maybe i thought it was so cool because i was young, stupid, and my gaming coordination wasn't up to par.

homer,
If you are going to go that far back then you can't count out Metroid or the original Zelda. Probably got my first case of no sleep at a tender age because of those two. |

oh, i wasn't counting out zelda, believe me! but zelda allowed the save game... mario you either played through or just kept repeating the levels over and over again.

I played Diablo for 12 months after it came out. Starcraft and its expansion after that(for 12 moths), then Diablo 2 and its expansion (still playing, think I've clocked more than 12 months now).
Maybe I'm just boring, but Blizzard games rule!

Yeah! The original BATMAN on NES was hard! At least when I was in kindergarden. I remember i would always get to that moon level where joker says something like "time to dance with the devil" And would always die. But I remember the time i finally beat the game.... Man that was a triumph.

I forgot to mention another one: Final Fantasy Tactics. I set my record of 14.5 hours straight on that one.

Tactics was a great game, and would have been greater had it been multi-player
