Question Gforce 4

Has anyone any experience/info about the performance of the Nvidia Gforce Four? say as compared two the Gforce Three?
There is a guy on ebay that has 48 I think it was starting at $99. Is this a good deal? Can one of you guys check it out and see if this isn't some different model with a major hang up. His auction shows no bids for the four.

Hi Doug,

There are several types of GeForce4's, the cheapest of which are the MX cards. There are also many brands that make them. My guess is that the guy is selling no-name low-end GeForce4 MX. Could you provide a link to the deal itself.

Any of the GeForce 4 MX cards are a total waste of money. They only support DirectX 7 instructions and are the same "speed wise" as a GeForce 2 TI. If you want the best for the money, go with a GeForce 3 card, as the prices for them are falling drastically. If you need the "next big thing" to have bragging rights, then you want a GeForce 4 4600 or 4400. They are the current leaders in performance.

Thanks Tire Tool and Doc Zaius. Here is the site at ebay. Please comment further. What is the advantage of supporting direct x 8? I'll have to check and see what version I have. Thanks.

Yeah, the card is a "PixelView" (aka. generic) GeForce4 MX440. I suggest saving a few more bucks and going with a GeForce3 Ti200/500 from a better brand like Visiontek, Leadtek PNY, eVGA, or Gainward.

Thumbs up

GF3 Ti200 cards can be had for a lttle over $100 now and are a ton better. I have a MSI Ti200 and 3dmark2001 scores are 640X480/16-9480 800X600/16-8480 1024X768/16-7168. I believe the Gainward GF3 Ti200 is the best overall Ti200 card for its overclockability I read somewhere. HTH!

It's tres difficult to grasp all the info, with so many cards, all waving the flag. Worse with MBoards. If it weren't for a few friends in the trade, I would be a sorrier, broker pup than I am. I didn't realize that the "Geforce 3" was out of production, from what I was told superseded by the GF3TI 200 and 500. ATI looks to be a great card, but they're saying stay away from it. Without actually having the devices and playing with them, how can one objectively decide
