MOHAA Copy Protection?
I have just bought MOHAA and would like to make a legit copy (backup) - no seriously I just had one of my games go up the swannie and would like to have a backup there just in case
Is there any copy protection on Medal of Honour Allied Assault and is there any way to bypass it? Thanks for the help,

Yes there is copy protection. I wanted to do the same thing with my store bought copy also. This is the best way I found to do it. "THIS ADVISE IS STRICTLY FOR BACKUP PURPOSES AND IS NOT FOR THE USE OF SOFTWARE PIRACY"
What I did was create folders for disk one and disk two on my hard drive. I then copied the each cd to its folder on my hard drive. I then zipped each folder into a zip file and burned each zip to its own CD. If you loose your original CD, unzip the zip files to your hard drive and then run setup. Of course, if you loose your cd you will have to find a way to run the game without the cd's. Hope this helps. |

Welcome to the forums and thanks for your help
____________________________________ That actually worked then? I think you need the CD to be able to play it, correct? Surely if the CD only has a ZIP file it wouldn't be recognised? |

You could probably find a nocd patch if you looked hard enough. I cannot remember where I got it, but I found one somewhere when I went to test to see if it would work.

Ok, thanks
I'll be sure to give it a go I've got a CD-RW lying around here somewhere so I don't waste my CDRs |

For 1:1 copies of a CD - no matter what copy protection it has - all you need is a CD burner capable of reading and writing in RAW mode and a software that supports RAW copy.
Such Software would be CloneCD or WinOnCD. I don't know which burners can't copy RAW, so you have to find out whether your burner supports it or not. So if you have both RAW capable burner and software, just make your backup. HTH RJ

That's just it, apparently MOHAA has a 'new' type of protection called Safedisc 2 which only about 1 CDwriter is capable of bypassing (and CloneCD cannot bypass)
Anyways, they may have a patch for it now, and I believe they do If it works I'll be sure to get back to you Last edited by fatboyjim; 03-27-2002 at 03:36 PM. |

Oooh! I have another question
I'm burning the backup at the moment. Is there any way for me to change what goes on my copy (Basically it seems to be working - it couldn't read from sectors 800-10019 which is the copy protection) I have downloaded the latest patch, is there any way I can make a backup copy with the patch on and still bypass the copy protection? Thanks, |

Look for a CloneCD add-on called "Weak Sector Amplification". It was built in to some foreign versions of CloneCD. I know CloneCD copies MOHAA with this feature enabled.

If you have a good enough cd burner/reader you can make exact copies for backup purposes only.
I would suggest using clonyxxl and clone cd. I use them to make images on my hdd so I don't need the cd to play. Yes, I have made an exact duplicate of MOHAA, it uses safedisc2 protection scheme. This info is for legit use only!!! Buy the games, support our gaming future!

Yes, I already have CloneCD and yes it would appear that my Burner IS good enough to do RAW data copying etc etc
I tried it and it almost worked (stupid copy protection which is the same as The Sims as well I think) there was a message when I tried to play it So I downloaded a cracked EXE from GameCopyWorld and it seems to be working fine I'm on Omaha Beach now - haven't done it yet but I'm sure I'll get there Thanks for the help, |

you can make copies very easily. just get like an acer or teac or plextor burner...get clonecd...then get a program called clony and another called beta blocker...you can get links to them here..but be polite and discreet.... http://www.sotmesc.org/gcms/crackbb/bbindex.html
gamecopy world will have your no-cd crack, i use them anyway....why put the cd in everytime....clone cd files will be big though...anyprogram which has a no-cd crack out can be made into a nice iso...use cdrwin 4 (not 5) if you need help with that email me and i'll send you the settings and whatever you need....and i copy stuff cause i can ;-) copy protection is a joke...I'll copy whatever I want. I bought it, it's mine...period. Nelly |

That MegaGames page is not only annoying, it is suspicious. I am fairly sure it downloaded and/or ran a file called wupdt.exe from my windows directory. I did not allow the proggy to connect to the internet when my firewall caught it, and I could not duplicate the problem after reloading the page, so I am not sure. However I am pretty sure it is not a critical windows file, like "windows updater" and it's process name of "test 1 Module" is certainly not a Microsoft signature.

Gamecopyworld.com is legitimate, though, and has no-cd patches for most games.

Legitimate?
I doubt any legitimacy can be found in sites offering pirated software, the user takes their chances where they feel they must.
However, I am not sure I feel any safer browsing the Microsoft site either, in light of their history both recent and past. Microsoft certainly doesn't mind taking my money and telling me I am "safe from hackers". |

Why bother making a copy. Over the next few months, the game's price will fall. By three or four months time you'll be able to pick up another copy for less than half-price. In six months time, you'll be able to get a budget release at £5 to add to your back-up collection.

www.gamecopyworld.com is a great place to get the no-cd patches. I always get the no-cd patches so I don't ever use the cds. I hate swapping cds to play a game.
