Your right in the middle of a game you have been playing for two hours and the game just quits. The desktop comes up and you get a message "Runtime error".Does anyone know what this means.

Runtime errors are caused by a bug in a program or some other problem that the programmers couldn't fix, such as running out of memory.

Some trojans can also cause a runtime error. Having a lot of memory does not make you immune to memory shoratges caused by programs with memory "leaks".

Hi shifty,
When I said "such as running out of memory" in my first post, that was just one example; not necessarily the cause of the runtime error on your machine. As wedor said, trojans & memory leaks can cause 'em also, as well as just a plain 'ol buggy program that was assembled quickly to "get it out by a certain date" or was not tested properly to resolve other problems. Could also be a bad memory module problem though. |

A trojan is a program that let's someone else gain unwanted control of your system. Most up to date anti virus programs will detect trojans and there are several other programs that are made just for that job such as "The Cleaner". What exactly is the error number you get?

Most likely, your PC is too fast for the game. Try to underclock it. I have this problem with tons of oldies (abandonware) too. It is just because the PC is doing things too fast and the game flips out. For abandonware you can use a little program called Mo'Slo, but I don't think that'll work for new games. Just try to underclock your CPU in the BIOS.
Second it could be that your memory is not optimized yet (Not all is used). There's this program available called RAM Booster which makes new free RAM available if your PC is running low on memory. |
