VOODOO 5500 + Win2000
Help, this pc doesn't like VooDoo.
It won't boot. This pc has a Voodoo5 5500 (PCI) and just did a fresh install of Win2000 Professional and after the splash screen, it doesn't boot. It WILL boot when the card is removed and the onboard video is used. Does it matter what PCI position the video card is in? It won't fit in the first slot because the HDD is in the way. Has anybody had this problem before? Thanks in advance,

I think that Win2k does not support any Voodoo cards. I had the same problem with my Voodoo II. If you want win2k badly, which is understandable, you might consider buying a new card like a GeForce card, those work very well with win2k.

Thanks Gentlemen, I was afraid that it might just be a compatability issue. Guess we'll have to go with WinXP...

Since XP is built around the NT/2000 system it may not support it. Suggest you go to the Microsoft XP site and run their compatability tester to see if it will.

All Voodoo video cards have stable Win2000 drivers, and actually perform better in Win2000 than in Win9x/ME generally. It's not a compatibility issue.
This is most likely a problem with residual drivers from the on-board video. Make sure you have the onboard video completely removed from the device manager before trying to install the Voodoo5 again. |

This system ALWAYS installs the Intel driver each time
the system is started...SO you have to uninstall it AGAIN after the first uninstall-shut down-install voodoo card-restart procedure. It says, "WAIT! only one install at a time is allowed." SO you have to wait , then uninstall AGAIN and then FINALLY install the Vodoo driver...THEN when you restart, it loads the Intel driver AGAIN, BUT this time it assigns it as the secondary device, WHEW!! Thanks Xayd, highest regards! |
