Nvidia Questions...
Hi guys. A new GF2 is about too be in my pocket, I've just got a coupla questions:
1. I understand different manufacturers release drivers for their cards only and the (latest and probably greatest) Nvidia reference drivers cannot be used with these cards. Does anyone know which cards can use the official Nvidia drivers? Or am I mistaken? 2. Can anyone recommend a Ge2 Ti for me? I'm looking for the cheaper end and I'm not worried about bundled software. Thanks. |

Hi David,
1. As far as I know, the official nVidia Detonator drivers can be used with any nVidia chipset video card. I never bother with the mfgs. provided drivers since they are usually out of date anyway. Just use the latest drivers from nVidia's site and you shouldn't have any problems. 2. What is your price range? If you're going to spend more than $100 I would recommend just going with a GF3 Ti200. |

Oh is that the case? I heard it was possible to reflash the bios to the nvidia bios, but I didn't know you could use the nvidia drivers instead of those recommended by the manufacturer.

Nope, no BIOS flashing needed. Just download the drivers from nVidia's site and it'll work fine.

David, if you find that the system locks up and refers to nv_4 error or somesuch, you may find relief in using the card maker's driver. And I agree with Doc Z, a gf3ti200 is just slightly more spendy.
I can say this about the gf3- it does in 16 bit what the gf2 needed 32 bit to pull off picture wise. That means SPEED! WOOhOoooOOo! |

Yes, I reccomed getting drivers from the nvidia site... Also, visiontek makes awesome nvidia cards, So either a Ge2 ti or 3 ti200 would work well.

Yeah, and Leadtek has nice heatsinks on theirs... I think they look cool. Especially the ones on the Geforce 4 MX440 and the Geforce 3 Ti 200. And the ones on the Geforce 4 Ti line are dual fan, nice and loud
![]() By the way, Newegg seems to be perpetually out of stock of the Geforce 2 Tis, what's with that?

Furius92, they're popular cards, and NewEgg doesn't usually have many to begin with (their stock is not as good as MWave's).

While we're talking drivers, what's the head-up on the latest ones, 28.32 (I think)? I've heard some pretty scathing things about them, so which release do people here recommend?

Ti 4200
You will be able to pick up a 128M Ti 4200 for around $185. It should be the most bang for your buck; outperforming the Ti 200.
If you still want a Geforce 2, you can pick up a "Geforce2 TI 64mb DDR" for around $75. I have always bought Visiontek, and never had a problem. Last edited by ryanatalie; 04-18-2002 at 07:42 AM. |
