In particular x-box emulators. Are they legal and do they work?

Sony seem to think that ANY emulator for it's systems is illegal, as in Bleem! even if you purchased the original game CD's full price.
I very much think that MS would be thinking along the same lines even if, as reported, they are losing money on the hardware. Are emulators available for the X-Box already?? My own personal take on this is that emulators should be legal for redundant hardware such as the NES etc but it's a bit off for brand new stuff such as PS2 and X-Box. What do you think? |

Yeah there're X-box emulators out already and now I know they're not legal, which I hadn't known.
Thanks for the info. I agree with you about NES but I doubt any corporation will. Congress just extended copyright last year to keep such things out of public domain. |

In general emulators are legal if you own the real hardware. Same applies for programs and games that you can download as a file for this emulator.

I was thinking of playing Halo without an x-box so I can't be considered legal
.I hope they hurry up with that game it's on my short " to buy" list for this year. |

RJ,
Where do you get your legal info regarding emulators? I would love to see a url if possible as US law is pretty much on-line. Has this law ever been contested in open court? I think this is "receiveved knowledge" law inadmissable in most countries. A game (PC-CDROM) may be copied for backup purposes according to license but that's about it..... |

Well, not sure if this applies to all emulators, but at least it applied to my Amiga emulator. I'll look for the website and then will post back.
