The problem I have is that when I go into the multiplayer section of the game and you click on play over LAN using TCP/IP, I cannot find the other machine. I have two PC's, one connected two cable so I'm using a proxy & Firewall. The network itself is running fine. What I have found out which I don't know what to do about is that the IP address that the host machine(connected to cable) gives me is the IP address for the NIC to the internet. I believe that I should be seeing the IP address for the NIC connected to the LAN. How can I change this? Another cuious bit of info is that when I click for the IP address of the other PC the IP address is correct but it tells me that the PC's name is the same as the cable/host PC's name. That last bit I don't understand. Could this be a Proxy problem or is there something I have to alter in the games files?

Hi fish,
Often games have real trouble running on a network when a shared connection is involved. Sometimes two copies can not both run on the Net and sometimes they can not see each other on the Lan. The solution to this is something called 'port forwarding' that runs in your sharing software/hardware to 'hardwire' connections to your games applications. Only thing is that it may not be possible to solve all problems. In short, games were not designed to run on shared connections and many have trouble. I would recommend the Linksys Router for a shared connection. This is fairly well documented how to establish a reasonable setup for playing games. Last edited by fred; 04-16-2002 at 04:38 AM. |
