Hi,
Maybe some of you guys can help me out here.

Essentially what are the differences between using OpenGL or Direct3D when playing Half Life?

If I use OpenGL then the graphics are a bit shakey but the text (as in when you start a new level, you see the level name appear on screen) is clear.

If I use Direct3D then the graphics are 100% but the text (as mentioned above) is blurred.

I went to MSN and understood that OpenGL V1.1 was the standard and is still so today. I find this confusing as DirectX has been updated again and again whereas OpenGL apperas not to have been . Is this an issue to do with the video card or the OS?

I suppose that I could ask what exactly IS OpenGL and is it better/worse than DirectX. I say this assuming that DirectX and Direct3D are related.

Can you guys give me some info? Do I/can I update the OpenGL on my PC? If so then do I need to? Where can I get the update?

Could someone just explain this to me as I want to know why Half Life looks like it does when using OpenGL.

Yours
