DirectX, Directdraw problem

I had recently set up a new computer with Asus V3800 TNT2 M64 Card on P3V4X Mobo with Celeron 500 and 128 Mb Ram. (windows98)

I downloaded almost every recent driver. and It runs Decent3 or Quake 3 Arena without a problem.
Strangely when I wanted to start Age of Empires It says "it can't initialize graphic mode. Check directdraw compatibility with video card".
When I try to play Diablo2 , it is more strange, it says "there is no video mode usable . Install directx6.1 or higher".

Infact Directx7 had been loaded.
do you have any idea what is going on? Quake3 Arena goes well but not Age of Empires2 or Diablo2. Is it possible?

Try reinstalling the games. If I had a choice I'd stay with DX 6.1, but alas many games require DX 7 now. Had a similar problem with roomie's 'puter and several games like NHL 99, LinksLS 2000, etc. Reinstalling worked on his setup.

I have not had a burp or hiccup out of DX 8 yet. It's been on this computer for about 2-3 weeks and I've been playing alot of first person shooters. Maybe that might straighten things out for you?

I reinstalled AOE2 and Diablo2 but didn't help.
I will re-install Directx7.0a if I can.
I didn't know DirectX8 is available now. If I can find it I will install it.

re-installing direct7.0a didn't help.
