I have just installed a tnt2 card on asus mobo running a cel 333.
Playing unreal I can't see any improvement over my p166mmx with a voodoo banshi. When I go into unreal's advanced options, the last one, I think rendering, the first option is something about glide, clicking on this gives "initilization failed". The other thing is, with unreal menu on full bright, and my monitor on full bright the game is still poorly visible, unlike the banshi which would peel your skin if you turned the monitor up that high. What have I done wrong? |

The way it sounds....Unreal Tournament uses GLIDE...which your Voodoo Banshee supports it but not your TNT2,it supports Open GL, which is not the same as glide. This might be the reason you don't see much difference. HTH

Try running UT using D3D mode.

You must run UT in D3D.Doesn't the game suggest that at the first initialization?

The UT engine has perhaps the worst D3D support in recent history. Deus Ex uses the Unreal engine, and I had serious problems running it on an Athlon 850/GeForce2 GTS, if that gives you any idea of the severity of the driver issues. Luckily I had a Voodoo3 3000 in my spare parts box, and the problems went away.

Yeah. In UT on my other computer with the TNT2 I get about 35 FPS but with the V3 2K in my other computer I get about 50-60 FPS.
UT really works best with glide. |

UT just released yet another patch, 4.28, to again address D3D problems. I haven't been able to try it though because my computer is being recalcitrant and unruly.

428 seems alot smoother. I got it about a week ago. I am running Glide, but the game was a bit choppy for me before this patch. With this patch it's much more consistent, even in mutliplayer games with alot of "stuff" going on around you at the same time.

I'm assuming your playing unreal not UT--get the latest patch go to advanced options and select open gl cos they could never sort out the d3d problems. It should give a new perspective.

Whats wrong with tnt2? Im running a tnt2 ultra 32, playing ut in d3d and get 55 fps average, and its a creative, wich is not the fastest tnt2 by far. I play q3 also with no probs, I dont know how to get fps with it though. I have the latest patches for all: dx7, creative drivers, ut. there are beta glide drivers on the creative site also but I have not tried them. I have a p3 550, 160 meg of ram, abit bx6, it played well with my pIII300. if you have a creative card you can download display director, wich will help with the darkness, although I wasnt using it until recently. there is a brightness setting in the preferences tab. Ive seen vodoo 3 cards and I think the picture quality was much better with my card, and i havent run into a game i couldnt play. how much on board memory does your card have? how much memory do you have, I saw major improvements going from 64 to 96 to 160.
