New games

Does anyone know of any really good games that are out? I mean I got Max Payne and Medal of Honor: Allied Assault but I passed them and I want another game of their quality. Anyone know of any?

Return to castle wolfenstein is a great game. Jedi Knight 2 is also another great game. Those are both FPS like Medal of Honor.

Another vote for JK. RTCW is good, but I think JK is much better.

I haven't bought or played another game since I got Counter Strike about two years ago. My computer has essentially become a Counter Strike console. I've definately got my money's worth on that one.

You can try Serious Sam: The Second Encounter, I love this game, if you like FPS games then you'll like it.

Global Operations and Die Hard: Nakitomi Plaza are good too.

Don't you get tired of playing FPS after FPS? Try something different, like...

Dungeon Siege
Freedom Force
Star Trek - Bridge Commander
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3
Grandia 2

Or wait until later this month & buy Grand Theft Auto 3 or Icewind Dale 2.

Dungeon Siege is cool, except a better name for it would be "Framerate Sieze". Even after switching from a Radeon VIVO to a GF4 MX440, I still hit 6 FPS in places (course I turned the detail up when I put the GF4 in), and the only reason it says 6 FPS is that is as low as the counter goes, lol. But, being that it isn't an FPS, 10-15 FPS is perfectly playable.

If you're a C&C fan, you can try C&C:Renegade... it's a lot less nauseating than Max Payne , and the multiplayer mode is really fun!

Still waiting out for WarCraft 3 though..

Nope, nothing wrong with your setup, lol. How far into the game are you? Because I saw on a forum for DS that some people with a true GF4 are still getting 15-20 FPS in places where there are a lot of bad guys. I just got done with the "Cliffs of Fire" and that's where mine was bottoming out, because there are just so many guys to fight.

Jenni, not far at all. I only just got the second character (in the crypt). I guess I'll just have to cry while I turn the color down to 16 bit... Man all of this hardware, for nothing..

I'm on my second time through, in the swamps now, I haven't tried checking the fps, but haven't noticed much slow down in the game using a GeForce 2 MX400 card. What's the procedure for displaying fps?

It's in the Options menu, Game tab, "Display Onscreen Framerate"
but I warn you, if you have been playing it and are happy playing it, don't turn it on, lol. You'll just get depressed.

Gnerma, my brother says it gets such crappy FPS because it must be a D3D game rather than OpenGL. I dunno, but it's such a fun game, I'll live with the slow downs.

I get between 14 and 20 depending on what's happening. I don't usually get concerned over frame rates if the game is smooth enough, I don't play FPS's. It was better to play D2 on my old Banshee card than it is on a GeForce though.

I've really only noticed a slowdow when it falls below 10 FPS. I know that sounds horribly low to most people, but it really is playable at 10 or more.

I have noticed slow downs in the game when there is a lot of stuff going on, but it is usually very minor and has not contributed to premature deaths or anything of that nature. I cranked the resolution up to 1024X768X16 on this when I first got it and haven't found the need to turn it down yet, always looks good.
