Game burning
I have just burned a game onto a cd and it doesnt run. All it allows is the install. Any tweaks that I might have to do?

Much like your other thread you are straying into the realm of piracy, this is against forum rules, I suggest you take this elsewhere.

Hi wedor,
Please excuse my ignorance, but are you saying that if I wanted to make a legitimate backup of any CD I bought and paid for, that I can't ask for help?? TwoRails |

That's not at all the discussion here is it? His other post asks about playing the same game on 2 systems without buying a second copy. The follow ups talk about making a copy to use on the other system. Others have asked about making back-up copies and that is not a problem, that is not the case here.

I have no idea what was being discussed as I was not following the originator's threads; I normally hang out in PC Hardware. I was just trying to clarify what was allowed or not. I did not think my post was offensive, at least it was not meant that way. TwoRails |

I referred to his other post in my first post, "Much like your other thread......", perhaps it was my mistake to assume you had read the entire post, my apologies.

Some games have anti-piracy protections and they vary from game to game. I remember when I lend C&C: Tiberian Sun to a friend of mine. He tried to make a copy and all was well. He installed it, then entered the code, and then... nothing. Seems like the game was programed to recognize the disk, and only would work with the original disc.
Check the license agreement for your game. If it says you could make a backup copy, then that copy should work. If it says nothing about backup copies, or it forbids them, then you'll have to buy a new copy. If the license says nothing, then you could check the publisher's web site for info about what you want to do, maybe ask in the forums there if you can install the game on two machines.

You need CloneCD, and in most cases a burner that is capable of RAW reading and RAW writing, and then you can make a real 1:1 copy

Actually, pirating and other illegal activity is NOT discussed here just for that very reason... that the people here are the best. They don't put up with any BS, which keeps these forums clean and keeps all the good people here. Now, since he never mentioned either back-up copies or piracy, I would help him if I knew the answer... which I don't. I do know that later Blizzard games have VERY good protection, and if you try to copy it will probably not work. Also, there are CDs that are programmed to release a virus if it is copied or tampered with. Be careful

Nemises: We take piracy here seriously - Furius explained our official position very well. Have you read the forum FAQ yet? What you do is your business, but some things are better left unsaid in these forums. It's not illegal to copy something, but what you do with the copy is the issue and we have to keep that aspect legal here.
