Hi Don,

A good gaming system under $1000 should be pretty easy.
  • Antec SX830 w/300W PSU ($79)
  • Soltek 75DRV5 ($98)
  • AMD Athlon XP 1800+ w/HSF ($108)
  • Micron 256MB PC2100 DDR ($55)
  • Leadtek GeForce3 Ti200 64MB ($130)
  • Maxtor 40GB ATA133 7200RPM ($71)
  • Lite On 32x12x40 ($70)
  • Turtle Beach Santa Cruz ($58)
  • Mitsumi 3.5" 1.44MB Floppy ($9)
  • Logitech Keyboard ($13)
  • Logitech Optical Mouse ($12)
  • Linksys 10/100 NIC ($15)
  • Windows XP Home ($88)
  • Logitech Z-340 2.1 Speakers ($36)
Total: $842 no including shipping and tax. All prices taken from NewEgg. Hope that helps.

I would totally agree with the Dr. Nice system there and the XP1800+ is the best deal now. New Egg is awsome. But for an extra $30, I'd grab a retail Radeon 8500 and add 2000 points to your 3DMark 2001 score. Or wait for a GF4 Ti4200 if you really want Nvidia.
