Radeon 8500 vs GeForce 3 Ti500
I have read in a number of forums that the new 128 Radeon 8500
just kills the GeForce3Ti500 under windows XP. Does anybody see the same results with win 98 SE? I was thinking of getting the radeon 8500 but I use Win 98 SE and I know that ATI has had driver issues in the past. Are the 8500 drivers for win 98 also revamped like win xp? |

I have a Retail Radeon 8500 64 MB, but am using XP. It cost me $150 through Newegg, although they don't stock the 64MB version now. Updating the drivers gave me a 200+ point increase in 3DMark 2001.
I believe the Radeon 8500 actually takes a performance hit in Win XP, therefore benchmarking higher in Win 98 SE. With the newest Win 98 Drivers, the Radeon 8500 (64 MB built by ATI) scores about 500 points higher than a GF3 Ti500, and costs much less. It's a great card and a bargain now. Forget the Ti500, do a Radeon 8500 or wait for a GF4 Ti4200. Just make sure you get the latest drivers for your OS. http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/...on8500-08.html http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/...107/index.html |
