WHy does this game load as a red screen?

Hi
If a computer running xp starts a game (Tribes) and the screen goes red with a black strip on the left side, what does that mean?
I have xp on my comp and tribes runs fine, never a prob. Do not even use compatibility mode. My future opponent uses a xp cpu and a a7n266e and a gf4 4200 or somesuch. What is he doing wrong? I am sure he is doing something wrong...jk
Mine's a xp1700/a7n266c/gf3ti200, so there is little difference parts wise. Thanks
