One Big Picture on two monitors

I hooked up a monitor to my laptop so I would be able to have one big picture. But I can only get two of the same screen. How can I get it so it is only one big picture? Do I need two videocards or is there any special software I need? BTW, I'm using Windows XP if that makes a difference.

Hi Starwind8748, welcome to the PC Mech forums!

You'd need a dual-head video card for that.

Are you sure? My laptop already has the default LCD, and it has the one port for another monitor, so why would I need a dual head video card?

Ah, sorry, misread your question, I thought you were using a VGA splitter. In that case, I don't know for sure if it can be done or not, hopefully someone else who has used this feature can reply.

When you go to the display properties, then settings, are two monitors pictured? If so, then just enable "Extend My windows desktop on to this monitor" from the check box.

There is only one monitor shown in settings. When I used to use Windows 98, I remember two monitors were always pictured there. Maybe Windows XP is just stupid.

If your video chip in that laptop is dual head capable (i.e. if you WERE able to do what you wanted with Win98), you need a proper driver for XP to do the same, contact your laptop manufacturer.
