GTA3 slow.....

I just bought GTA3 for the pc about a week ago and really enjoyed it - however a few days ago it started jolting and I mean REALLY badly when you get out of a car it will stop for about a minute before you can continue - it worked fine before but this is really bugging me.....

it makes it somewhat unplayable especially when you are racing down a road being chased by cops and it locks up - NICE!...

it isn't like a normal jolt either because the game doesn't advance while it's paused it just literally stops for ages and then picks up where it left off...

anyone had the same problem?

------

oooh just had a thought - I am running XP - I had some problems when I first tried running it so I installed the latest patch from microsoft and that fixed the initial problems and it ran fine for a few days...

could it be XP?

What video card and driver are you using?

I'm running GTA3 with XP and a GForce3 using 2920 drivers. I get an occasional quick pause but no lockups.

I don't know about XP, but Take Two are recommending 800x600x16bit High Colour for anyone suffering slowdown.

DirectX 8.1 is also a must.

look at the technical forum.. 99% of owners have problems with it. stores are starting to take it off their shelves because every copy that got sold was returned.

I've had no problems with GTA3 in WinXP. It also works fine, but not quite as well on my other system running WinME, but that's the computer. What kinds of problems are other people having?

Um.. what drivers did you install? Drivers with XP are a lot less painful than drivers with win9x.

I'm running 2.4GHz P4, GeForce 3 Ti200, 512M RDRAM, and the game momentarily pauses during play. Services optimized for gaming. Nothing running in background.
