America's Army Computer Game

http://www.americasarmy.com/

My brother just forwarded me this link. Looks pretty interesting.

I guess since the army will probably eventually consist of 90% programmers who will be programming combat protocols for robot operated tanks, planes, and such, then it is probably time/tax money well spent

Cheers,
Cirerrek

sounds rather overkill to spend so much money on a free game.

What is the point of this game?. I hope it is not some sick way to get young people to join the army!

This sounds like it will do nicely at the cafe. All those teenagers just waiting in line to get indoctrinated. Yep. Sure.
Without young people who wish to join the army, we would not live the way we do now. I detect clintonesque sentiments in this thread.

That actually sounds pretty cool. I doubt it'll make anyone wanna join the army. It'll prolly just be "another game" to pretty much everyone. The graphics look nice, and it's free, so I just preordered my CD =)

Firstly, I think you need a new political detector. Secondly, I have served my country have you served yours? I think that recruitment through a game is kind of sick and twisted. I do not fear that young people will be indoctrinated. I merely find the method of recruitment distaste full. War is not a game and neither is serving your country. What that has to do with Clinton is beyond me.

First of all, yes, I have served my country so I feel the need to pipe-in (MOS: 12B Ft. LW). This is no more "sick and twisted" as you put it, than allowing recruiters into our high schools. Kids have a choice to play this game or not. The same way they have a choice to talk with recruiters. Its no different being exposed to Army media through TV or any other form of media.

The point of this game is merely entertainment. Maybe leave reality for a moment to imagine being a Ranger. I don't see anything wrong with this game, and I may play it myself.

Firstly, I am not saying that there is anything wrong with games at all in fact I love playing Counter Strike. Second, I disagree with your statement that recruiting through a game and recruiting in high schools is the same. The two things are totally different. One is a game and the other is a scenario, where people who have chosen to serve their country explain to young people what the army has to offer. Games are for fun and recruitment in high schools is a way of explain to young people what the army has to offer in a professional way.

Oh, and if it's anything like the flash intro, the game looks like a pretty sweet game. Maybe it will drag me out of WWII (mohaa)

After my 7 1/2 year stint in the Air Farce, I doubt the Army would accept this disabled vet, but I did go ahead and pre-order my copy two days ago. Frag you later!

Is this really produced by the Army or some cleaver marketing to make it as official looking as possible? How is it that the military can spend money on development of a game? Also, when is the Air Force going to come out with a kick @$$ flight sim?!!

Are you kidding me? Do I need to quote statistics on how much money the government spends on this and that? Think about it, buddy...if anyone has money to spend on making a sweet game, it's the military.

Of course it is! "Sick" is a matter of opinion, but you'd only be kidding yourself if you said that they'd spend tons of money on developing a free game for the public just because they're such nice guys.

In any case, it should prove to be a fun game. I think I'll get it...
