AOE II Conquerers server
I want to set up a server over DSL for some friends to play AOEII on. I have DSL, the others have DSL or Cable. I want to set up a server and probably play on the same machine. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks.

Sure, use TCP/IP for Direct Play, and give them your IP address.

That sounds exactly like we do it on the LAN. I'll give a try tonight. Thanks.

Yeah, it's easy as pie. And BTW, you can't combine LAN and internet games with AOE, which stinks, but that's just the way it is.

Make sure your server is a monster. We tried it and it ran fine until you had four teams converging to kick some butt and then it was SLOOOWWWW going.

Yeah, no doubt about that, but I think it would take a REAL server to keep that from happening. My brother's PC is a 1.33 (o/c) Celeron with 512 megs of RAM and it still lags when you have a bunch of guys.

I have been the server for an 8 player game on a lan. Specs: 512DDR, AThlon XP 1700. It slowed slightly for about 1 minute when we had 4 attacks going. Other than that, no problems at all.

If anyone wants to play, it worked. Let me know, and I'll host up to seven others! I'll be around today (6-13-02) after about 10.30am. I'm up for it most Tues or Thursdays also.

Any chance a dedicated server would be better? If you had a spare to play on it yourself of course. Get a switch and play away!
