Angry Fire computers freezing or locking up during games

I hope this is the right place to post this. I have two computers, one a p4, and the other an athlon. i built both. I am running into the same problem with both of them. They both freeze at the most immoportune times while playing games i would like to complete. mmIX and Dungeon seige. My question is what is the most common cause of this problem? I am now suspecting old memory boards because both are having the same problem. Do i invest a lot in memory to correct this? Neither computer has any other problems with any other applications or surfing. Got me uptight to say the least. Any suggestions would be greatly apprieciated! Thanks in advance. Rock On.

What video cards do you have on your PCs?

Athlon 800 is running with an Elsa Erazor X, and the P4 has a radeon 7500. I don't suspect the video cards. all drivers kept up to date. Maybe heat? p4 running at 119 degrees? is that ok?

119 ain't too bad, that's my idle temp . Besdies, the P4 has built in heat-protection. What kind of Athlong, Slot A Classic? T-Bird? (I guess thats not imporntant...{to Intel fans})

Could this be related to internet connection? When was your last hard-drive defrag?

Is it just happening with these games or other games?
It may just be these games have bugs which can cause crashes.
A not uncommon problem in the gaming world.
Check each publisher's website for issues and patches.

Do a Google search for each game and see if you can find fan forums. There you will find out whether other people are having similar problems and what, if anything, they did to correct them.

What Windows version are you using and do you tend to have lots of unneeded programs running in the background while gaming?
