Question Nintendo....?

ok, I'm just wondering this....... Why does nintendo claim they aren't just targeting kids when they make their games, when Shigeru Miyamoto's 2 main titles and the flagships of Nintendo are kiddie type games? Zelda and Mario Sunshine and mae to look juvinile and that makes me kind of mad.(zelda looked better before they changed it, but I guess it wont change the gameplay) Any reason to why they'd do this? I like nintendo alot and I'll buy those games like the rest of the zeldas and marios I own, but I though they were trying to escape that audience... or at least it looked that way when they signed and exclusive deal with Capcom and the Resident Evil Series with the exclusion of RE online...

at my house there is six kids total, my dad[35] plays the gamecube the most, then whenever some else play a game against him, he tells us that we suck and shouldn't attempt a second time...

Nintendo to me seems to market directly to kids regardless of what they "claim". I mean..just take a look at the design for the game cube. Bright, Multi-Colored controllers just like a little kids toy. Whereas XBox and PS2 use dark, neon colors which are common with teens and young adults. The graphics for Nintendo are rounded and smooth which give a sense of comfort. XBox and PS2 have a variety, but generally are more angled and sharp-edged.
But hey...I like Zelda. I think that just has to do with the fact that I used to spend days playing the original on my trusty old Nintendo. Which I still have and play.

I'm looking forward to them both quite a bit. They may have a "kiddy" fascade, but underneath is still great gameplay - something Nintendo is still capable of.

Agree with MOX.... They are still some of the best games out there. And yes nintendo has become a bit more adult these last few years, maybe not themselves, but certainly with some of the games out on the system (RE), also don't forget about Metroid prime AND eternal darkness... Both from nintendo.

Hehe - speaking of dads and games... my father is going on 60, and you know what? He loves to play Counter Strike, or Delta Force online. Go figure.

exactly, but I just dont understand why they to change the look and feel of the game.. it'll still be fun to play.... but I mean I just wanted Link to grow up you know? Shigeru Miyamoto making a mature mario game or something that'll be the day!

You know, I agree with you whr2206. Unfortunatly, Nintendo is going to do what they want (they've always been that way) so I guess the best we can do is try to enjoy the games for what they are.

BTW, there have been hints that the "adult" Link will return; I don't think the wacky cartoony style found in the new Zelda will be a permanent staple in the series. There was a big rumor that Link would be a secret character in the GC version of Soul Calibur II. Man that would be wild

I dunno how a mature Mario would work - maybe a GTA3 style game set in the Mushroom Kingdom?

haha that'd be great! Mario gone mad. Left for dead and has nothing to lose! I'd love to see that kidn fo game. But Grand Theft Auto Vice City is supposed to take place in Miami in teh mid 1980's..... I wonder how much different it will be from GTA 3. Probably same thing different place, and missions. cause GTA 3 is still selling well......

Cant wait for Perfect Dark 2 myself - the single player wasn't quite as good as Goldeneye but the multi-player was criminally underrated for a console shoot-em up

I also think that Nintendo targets kids as their main audience. Its the system that you can buy for your child without hesitation, it is the cheapest, and from what I have seen with PS2s it is physically more durable. I think one of the reasons Nintendo's market share is so high is that any one that grows up with a Nintendo console will tend to buy the next generation versions of it (ie brand loyalty). Anyway thats just my two cents.
