tv and video card question
I want to buy a new tvcard next month am i am wondering what y'all think about the subject. I was thinking to get a hauppage wintv primio(tv, teletext, remote) which is 95 euro (a little less in dollar) here. any ideas?
also i am wondering what to do with my video card, currently i have a geforce 2 mx200 64mb or something on a duron 900 265 mb ram. i can spend something like 150-180 euro on a new card i play mostly strategy or fps, sometimes racing(have f1 2002 now). is there a better option in this price range or is my card still good enough to last a while? (serious sam 2, which is used often for testing it seems, runs quite nice at 1024*786 (or something) with high textures and so on. i cant buy online because im a student and so i dont have a credit card, i live in belgium and we have 21% VAT here so i have to keep that i mind to when buying someting. any ideas? please let me know |

I've had both an ATI TV tuner and a Hauppauge. I returned the ati and swapped it for the haup, because the quality on the ati was very poor for me, and the drivers caused nothing but problems. So I'd go with the wintv.
About vid cards... Yours may be okay for current games, but If you're looking towards the future (Doom III, Warcraft 3, C&C generals etc...) A good card to get in that price range might be a Geforce 4 ti4200...

Hi,
I second the Hauppauge. I myself had a Hauppauge TV card and it worked very well. www.hauppauge.com The exact model is only up to you, because the cards only differ with features (On the one hand, WinTV Go is very basic, on the other hand, WinTV PVR includes a MPEG-2 hardware encoder chip). Also there are different cards for analog tv, digital tv or satellite. 95 € looks good to me. If you don't want to buy online then go to a local store and buy there. I, for example, buy *never* online, I always go to the local store. RJ

thanx for the info
there 's another thing i was wondering about the video cards geforce seems to have 2 different types in most gforces, mx and Titan. is there a big difference in these cards, do they each have different purposes? Or is one just more powerful than the other? now i m gonna start saving up for that geforce 4. Hope it wont be too long |

Well, the ti are more the hardcore gaming cards... I'd advise against the MX series though, unless you are a VERY casual gamer, or not one at all.... The Ge4 MX's use a different chipset then the ti's, and are not much more powerful than a geforce 2.
