Well, I just got the new edition of PCG and it confirmed a guess. The reason for lousy frame rates in Morrowind is copy protection. It seems Macrovision's Safedisc is at fault.
So lets see if I've got this straight. The copy protection damages the game play on any legally bought disc but I wouldn't have this problem if I'd downloaded or bought a hacked copy ? This is to deter piracy. Is Bethesda crazy ?

Yes I just read this too in the PCG.... I thought it was a terrible move on the part of the developer.

Seems like that would encourage MORE piracy.

That's a great point; really put's things in perspective.
I'm still at a loss how this game is averaging so high with reviews. A game that performs like crap would have to be the best game ever on all other aspects for it to still be liked this much. |

i ve had similar problems with several original games. i remember
need for speed 5 didnt work at all on my pc, and after a month of helpdesks and FAQ mazes i simply got a hacked version, which worked perfectly, and a little later i discovered that putting a nocd crack on the original installed game made it work too. if they simply sold the games at decent prizes (i pay about 50-80 euro for a game here) and didnt release so much utter crap (50 % of fps games the last year, remember wolfenstein ayone) there wouldnt be a need for all this copy protection junk, i am willing to pay something like 40 euro for a good game that can amuse me longer than it takes to install it. im just a student and i can max buy 1 game a month or so, and then having to realize its total crap, or a bug hell, really isnt so funny for me. |

Let's be careful here folks, the Mech does have a strict policy on hacks and cracks.

indeed, but my point here is that its quite terrible that when i go out and buy a game, i have to search a month trough email adresses, automated responses and on and on to find out that a hacked version of exactly the same game works perfectly. who is the one encouraging to actually buy games then?
i think the least they could have helped me and (many) others with is a decent help desk or forum. |

Bethesda lives up to its tradition. The Elder Scrolls was one of the most patched games ever.
