Memory Heatsinks
Hey everybody.
I'm planning on buying a Gainward geforce 4 4200 (only $148 on newegg), which is supposed to be a great overclocker. The core already has a decent sized fan on it. Do I really need sinks for the memory? I've heard it really doesn't get all that hot. I'll probably overclock it to somewhere in the 4400/4600 range, but I won't push it real hard. Nick |

Don't rightly know, but my GF3 Ti200 has a HSF which covers both the GPU and the memory.

If it has no mem sinks, lotsa folks hacksaw a cpu sink and use thermal epoxy to apply. Works well if one has the space.

I've read reviews of heatsinks for regular motherboard memory and it didn't help, but it might be different with video card memory. If a kit with the sinks is not expensive I say go for it, it just may help you get a few more FPS out of the card.

Thanks a lot everyone. I plan on overclocking it but nothing too harsh, and from what I've heard it's a great OCer out of the box, so unless I have real problems, I probably won't bother with the memory sinks.
