ok, on to the video cards.......
im not sure if this post should be in this subject, but i read some video card thread....so ima post it here....
im LOOKING for a video card. im doing heavy gaming and heavy drafting with auto cad(and lightwave, if yall know what that is). ati or geforce? witch is more stable to use? about ati-only "built by ati" not the one that is "powered by ati" and geforce? i dont know jack about that.. just heard its good. if i choose nvida, what is the highest for nvida? and if i choose ati, what is the highest for that? thanks..in advance |

For gaming I would reccomend nVidia. The highest right now is the GeForce 4 Ti4600.
For your other apps probably ATI...Radeon 8500 (I think) is the top dog there. If you're doing both the ATI will probably be your best choice. Others will have to chime in here as I have not done any auto-cad stuff before. |

I know several people that do CAD and they seem to have preference for either Matrox (not good for gaming) or ATI. You can find the Radeon 8500 which will handle games just fine for considerably less than the top of the line GeForce cards.

Matrox is going to release the Parhelia soon. From what I've read not as powerful as the GeForce 4, but fricking fast anyway.
Since Matrox has been a leader in the 2D area for quite a time the Parhelia could be an option for you. RJ

The only reason I didn't suggest the Parhelia is apparently it's pretty mediocre when it comes to gaming.

I agree, in benchmarks the Matrox Parhelia peformed at around GeForce4 Ti4200 levels, and it's going to cost a lot more, around $400
. I second the ATI Radeon 8500 for gaming and apps.

The Quadro video cards are for professional applications, like 3D rendering. Stick with the Geforce 4 Ti or the Radeons for home use.
