Grand theft auto III

How many people have played GTA3? That game is really grapic intense to say the least. I dont have the best system in the world but in the game in the display options you can set it to run in 1024x768 resolution and 32 bit. I did that and man talk about slow and choppy. It was pretty much one frame every full second. This is on my system too. (see specs in signature) It runs pretty good now (have it set at 640x480 16 bit) the read me file that comes with the game though says that the system requirements to play this game is:
450Mhz CPU
96MB RAM
4 speed CD-ROM drive
16MB video RAM
all I can say is good luck playing this game on a system like that, theres no way, I mean you could maybe get it to work, but to actually play it. Now I know I have a LCD monitor, but still that doesnt account for the button to screen dely. (when I hit the button on game pad (joystick) to fire, or turn left there will be a very short delay before the game follows suite. I also had a question about this game and winXP, when I play it on XP the grapics are messed up (where you move the mouse over where it says start game, options, quit, save game, ect.. all I can see there are big orange block squares, just about anywhere text appears on the game the only thing I see are orange square blocks, it doesnt do this on win98. I think maybe now I will use the option to overclock the video card. I know there are some people here at PCMECH that have overclocked video cards, is there much of a noticable difference in performence after doing this? The core clock on my card is running at 200Mhz and the memory clock is running at 167Mhz from looking at the display meters it looks like the core setting can be cranked up more then the memory, at least it reads that I can move the dial up alot more and still be in the 'green' section of the meter. Is there any truth to this?

It runs just fine on my "Inferior to PC's" Playstation 2

But yes, I have heard that it is very hardware intensive, and also has its share of bugs and such as of now.

Hi SSAHL,
I don't play games but I installed it for a friend yesterday P3 933,
Intel 815ep chipset, 256 ram, 40 gig Seagate 7200, Winfast TH GFS2 64meg DDR, and it ran like a dog in 16 bit 1024x768. Looked like everything was in slow motion. Disabled some of the settings in options "display" think one of them was something like shadowing or trailing and it ran much better.

Go look at the following:
www.cdfreaks.com "General software forum", there is some serious discussion going on about this game. over 50 problems already and all on top end systems.

Thank goodness. I had this game in my greedy, sweaty palms last weekend. I couldn't afford the 50.00 price tag so I (slowly) slipped my credit card back into my wallet.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll wait for the patched version.

The only problem I've had with the game is when it gets foggy, I can't see anything. So all I have to do is type in "skincancerforme" and it makes it clear. BTW, I'm using an ATI Radeon 8500 card. I didn't use to have that problem with my old GF2 MX400 card.

i can run it fine on my system in 1024x768x32 and it runs just as fast as it does on 1024x768x16, turn on trails and you get about 3 seconds per frame, never mind frames per second!!

trials just blurs the screen a bit when you move, you dont need it and i shouldnt think youd want it on even if it worked fast anyway, its pants
