SOF2 - Oh dear!

Hmmm...finally managed to wrestle SOF2 from the boys...they seemed to go off it quickly...I should have suspected something was wrong.

Have just finished the Columbian levels but it's slowly begining to dawn on me that I'm not enjoying this as much as the first one.

I expected the frag-feast which exceeded the first game and instead find myself creeping around on irritating "stealth" missions and being forced to participate in second-rate arcade action. Add to that, overlong amateur-looking cutscenes where Mullins walks around like a "Thunderbirds" puppet. Hardly inspires you to think this is a formidable mercenary.

The AI has certainly improved, in fact it's quite impressive in sections, but the gameplay seems somewhat lacking and ultimately unrewarding.

Also there appears to be something wrong with the physics of the game. You stand there behind a Heavy Machine Gun or Flexi-gun hitting enemies and they are still standing and shooting. A Flak jacket doesn't offer that level of protection.

I don't get the same feeling of excitement I had when playing the first game. I don't feel driven to find out what's around the next corner and that's the mark of a good game.

Has anyone else found this or am I getting too hard to please in my old age.

I agree with mike. There's a certain feeling of urgency to the first one (I think it might be the brass section in that orchestral score! -when I think of SOF, that tune starts going off in my head). There's a lot to love in this game, but it is definitely a "warts and all" type of situation.

I agree with mike Breck, way too much "stealth" crap for me. I'm sorry I bought it ($50, yikes)
Kind of like the rainbow six games in a way. I liked the first one better, the sounds in multiplayer sound like "red faction". I am more into the "pure shooter" games, like Q3 and MohAA.
I quit playing after the "jungle missions"
waste of $$$ for me

I am strictly in it for the multiplayer and it seems to be great action. There is good play speed although the accuracy and firepower of some weapons don't seem to match the ones I've used in real life. Never having played the first SOF I have no basis to compare single player missions.
