hi
i think it means you can put digital video into it. my choice on cards would be the gf4's, 4200, 4400, 4600 wolfie |

Yep. Radeon 8500DV can be used for digital video, means it has a firewire controller and a firewire port on it. The non-dv doesn't. It has only the output for monitor (DVI, VGA), and tv out is optional I think.

hey thanks for the info....but uh,
the geforce4 4600 has all that the 8500dv has, but the suck thing is that 8500 is 128mb but the 8500dv is 64mbm. guess im going with the geforce4 4600...... but can yall help me with one other thing? what kind? i mean, its made by a 3rd party. should i go with: asus' geforce4 Inscrutable Imagination's geforce4 Vision Tek's geforce4 abit's geforce4 msi's geforce4 OR pny's geforce4? ya know what i mean? its NOT built by nvida. but if i go with ati, it'll have the capability that geforce4 has but it doesnt have the options that geforce4 has. what a complicating choice! |

Vistiontek, Leadtek, MSI, PNY, Abit, Asus, Gainward, and eVGA are all good nVidia card manufacturers.

I would not waste my money on a 4600 when a 4200 is almost as fast for half the price. I also would only get a GF4 if gaming was my first priority - if I were doing heavy graphics and no games, I would get a Matrox - and if you want an all-around card that does everything well, the 8500 is hard to beat.

Why are you getting the AIW? Do you need the TV tuner and all the other extra goodies?

since I'm relativley new to forums, is it cool to join a thread with my own related question? Well, here it is anyway, I have an Elsa Gladiac 511 with tv out! What does that mean? I don't see any extra sockets on the card that let's me plug anything else in....or amI just plain stupid!
ps it's rubbish weather in London... as always |

It's customary to open your own thread unless the question *directly* relates to the topic. In this case, you will get a better response by opening your own thread because the topic here is ATI cards.

one thing about all in wonder you may be interested in.
the tv options aren't just for watching tv on your pc...you also can pause live tv like tivo, use it as a digital vcr, and there is always the tv out option, that lets you plug that wide screen into your card and game on the big screen..... |
