After reading your post from that other thread you linked over I ripped the HD's from our two computers. The kids cried. I then trashed the RAM, I don't care if they call it dynamic memory and that supposedly all the info gets lost when power is turned off. What's the real reason they got the CMOS battery in there for? Hmmm?
But now they got our IP address. Maybe we should move. Last edited by TimPoet; 07-15-2002 at 10:05 AM. |

In regards to TimPoet:
Hey like they say, its better to be safe than sorry. Unless you we're doing anything illegal on the computer such as using and downloading a couple "warez" or "cracks" or unless you're a member of the Taliban, I wouldn't be too worried. But then again it seems like the perfect government scheme: Mass distribute a GREAT looking FREE game that involves "cool army stuff and violence" and aim it towards serious gamers and lace it with the latest version of a modified....Carnivore? Echelon? Magic Lantern? And as a bonus get some new recruits in! Maybe we're being watched right now?. I would've trashed the HD's too, but I would've kept everything else cause I'm a cheap bastard. Anyways, this is a good excuse to custom build a computer using PCMech's Guide! You can even buy a couple cheap barebones for the kids and network them together or something for games if you have the money. But then again...what if Windows is secretly teaming up with the big guys already? The Palladium thing makes me shiver. Also ISPs now are using "black boxes" and all kinds of other "monitoring tools" now. The only ISP I know of without monitoring utilities is probably Earthlink. The information on these kinda things is still vague and unclear. AHHH! WHERE DOES IT STOP?! P.S. Hello Big Brother! |

What the prune says is relevant, (go Echelon!!) but I doubt that the Army would care so much for surveilance of citizens (14 year olds?) beyond what any commercial effort does. One good reason to have a (linux) box to surf and a box just for games. This is regardless of any back door that has always been in winblows. Let alone the program known as simorp. Speaking of zeraw, a friend was emailed by the IBF about his viewing/dling habits. That was enough for me. No thanks, I will buy my own.
