Problems joining/hosting games

I have a router (D-Link, model DI-614+)through which we share an internet connection. The router has a built-in NAT firewall. How can I disable this or configure it to let me host/join games on the internet? The games I'm wondering about are Combat Flight Simulator 2 and MOHAA. Thanks for you help.

I dunno how a D-Link works, but in a Linksys you have to either forward all the ports that the game requires or put the machine in the DMZ.

I neither forward ports nor activate DMZ and my Linksys router. It is running as a gateway right now, with IP and DNS automatically obtained. Would it run better as a router, or any advantages to using it as a router?

You shouldn't have many problems JOINING games with all your ports blocked with the NAT on the router, it would just be a problem hosting in most cases. Then you would just need to find out what port the game uses and forward it.

Actually, on zone.com, it does prevent me from joining. And how do you figure out what port the game uses?

If you have zonealarm, install it and get on the net, then start the game and pick a server to join. When zone alerts to the game activity, it should show you the port.

Ok, I finally figured out how to put it in the DMZ, and it works now. Thanks.
